Dear faithful hearing and deaf members of SCDC and friends, Thank you so much for your kind helping hands in promoting our annual project "International Day of the Deaf" at Immaculate Heart of Mary church on Sun 20 Sep 2009. Annual Novena Procession in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary at Novena Church on 6 Sep 2009. Thanks to the Redemptorists for inviting us

We are glad to introduce Bro Lionel Thomas, a final year Seminarian from the diocese of Melaka-Johor in Malaysia, who studies in the Seminary here in Singapore. He is from Malacca.
He chanced upon sign language and slowly learns about the deaf culture from the deaf in Johor and Singapore and grew closed to us.
Despite his tight schedule at the seminary, he sometimes meet us at the centre to help out with our programs and activities. He initiated doing roadshows at various parishes to build up the awareness of the Community.
During every visits he does not tire out by asking us how to sign every word correctly which he wants to know.
In between the years at the Seminary, he planned trips to Malacca and Johor Bahru. He also conducted Advent Retreats for us.
He even conducted songs in sign language. What a enthusiast person of the Lord Jesus! Praise the Lord!
Our brother - Charles Chang and his wife Maria visited us in mid 2008, shared his experience living in the States.
Fr Harry Stocks is currently working with the Catholic Deaf group - De Sales in Toronto, Canada. He is the chaplin of the group for many years and is their Editor of their monthly newsletter. He keeps in touch with our Group and inform us of their activities by sending us their monthly newsletter. His gift of sign language allows him to sign during Masses for the Deaf.
He came to Singapore in 2008 to share the joy with us for SCDC's 30th Anniversary. He was the main celebrant of the Eucharistic celebration.

Prayer for the Deaf
Father, we ask you to look with mercy at us, your dear children. Bless us, inspire us to always love you and our neighbours as ourselves. We pray for our priests, religious and lay people who serve our community. Help them to recognize, understand and respond to our unique needs. Father, we pray to you for our deaf Catholic brothers and sisters. Please send your Holy Spirit so that they may continue to grow spiritually through making time for prayers, receiving the sacraments and serving other people. Holy Spirit, come and transform each of us through Jesus Christ our Lord. Holy Mary, our dear Mother, pray for us. Amen
